Kindergarten Information
Dear Kindergarten Families,
Welcome to an exciting Kindergarten school year! I hope that this letter will answer many of your questions regarding our kindergarten class and policies.
COMMUNICATION: One of my goals is to keep you informed the best I can. I plan to achieve this goal by posting a newsletter every Friday on my school webpage (see Weekly News Letter). The newsletter will highlight our weeks activities. It will also give you a short preview as to what letter(s) we will be covering during the upcoming week. I hope this will enable you to engage your child in conversation about what activities and fun things they will be learning in the classroom.
I can be contacted either before or after school for any questions or concerns. The easiest way to reach me during the school day is through e-mail. I will do my best to respond within 24 hours of receiving your note, phone call, or e-mail. If you have an e-mail address, you would like me to be aware of, please indicate it on the questionnaire. I do send out group emails out during the school year of notifications, reminders, etc. Please notify me if you prefer paper copies instead of emails so that I can send those home.
Occasionally, we have trouble with technology. If I do not respond to your e-mail within 24 hours, please contact me by phone. Thank you!
IMPORTANT NOTES:
Each day your child will bring home their “Minion Binder”. Please take the time to look through and empty the folder daily for homework and other important information. If you need to send a message to school, please put it in the zipper pouch. I will check each day shortly after school begins.
I will not check inside your child’s backpack for notes. Each student will be responsible for giving me their binder immediately upon their arrival at school. If you are sending money or checks to school, please put it into an envelope with your child’s name, label it with what the money is for, and put in sipper pouch. Thank you!
DAILY SUBJECTS AND ACTIVITIES:
Each day we will work on Reading, Math, Phonics, Handwriting, Science and Social Studies. Assignments and activities will be completed as a class, in small groups, or individually. The students will also go to gym, music, art, library & computers each week. To see what special classes your child has on each day of the week; please see "Schedule."
Snack:
Our lunch time is at 10:40 and since it is so early in the day we will have snack time in the afternoon. Please send a small healthy snack for your child separate from their lunch. They will have about 10 minutes to eat their snack. Please NO cookies, candy or sweets. Fruits, veggies, crackers, and pretzels, etc. will be acceptable snacks. It is important to promote a healthy lifestyle early on. Also, please do not send juice. Water bottles are acceptable.
(See "Allergy Information" for more details on nut free snacks)
Gym Shoes:
Your child should have a pair of shoes that will only be worn for P.E. class. These will be kept in their cubby at school. Please mark initials inside of shoes.
Extra Clothes:
Please send in extra clothes, underwear, and socks in a large baggie in case of an accident for your child to be kept at school in cubby. Please keep in mind when choosing clothes to send to school make sure that your child will be able to dress themselves. Please label clothes, shoes and baggie with student's initials.
Daily Attendance/Illness:
Please notify the school office if your child is going to be absent, 847-740-5320. Please do not send your student to school if they have a fever or vomiting. Your child must be fever free for 24 hours before returning to school. Please keep in mind the health of all the other students.
Child Pick Up:
If you will be picking up your child from school, please notify the school office before 2:30 p.m. When picking up your child, the office staff asks that you wait in the hallway outside of the office for your child. If you will be picking up your child from school, you will need to sign them out in the office.
Dismissal:
If someone other than parent or guardian will be picking up your students please notify the office or send a note with your student prior to change.
Parties:
In Kindergarten we have 3 parties during the year, Halloween, Valentine’s Day And Winter party. I will send notes home before the parties letting parents know the date and time. Parents are invited to come and help with our parties (See Parent Volunteers). For our holiday parties we usually have a snack, play games and craft activities.
Field Trips
In Kindergarten we usually go on one or two field trips. Notes will go home telling you about the field trip and the cost. Parent chaperones will be needed for the field trip. The field trip permission slip will have a sign up for chaperones. Chaperones are on a first come first basis.
Please feel free to communicate with me about any concerns or questions you may have. Communication between home and school is very important. I appreciate you taking time and giving support to your child’s education. It is such an exciting year of physical, emotional, and educational growth. This year will be a fun learning experience for your child!
Sincerely,
Mrs. Ohm
